After an initial exam with x-rays, the dentist will impressions of the upper and lower teeth. After this is done, technicians will craft a set of up to 48 transparent aligners made to the patient’s exact specifications. Aligners are typically worn for 6–18 months. The aligners have to be changed every two weeks and it is suggested to only remove them while eating, brushing.
