The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts is located at 1300 N. Biscayne Blvd., Miami, FL 33132, also called Arsht Center is one of the the largest performing centers in the United States.
It is also home and headquarter of the Florida Grand Opera and Miami City Ballet.
The Center occupies 570,000 square feet (53,000m2) and the original structure stems from 1929 predating he Art Deco hotels on Ocean Drive. It was originally built on the grounds of former department store Burdines. However in 2001 the only surviving part of the original structure was a seven story tower built by Sears, the space’s successor.
After extensive renovations, the center opened as the “Carnival Center” in October 2006.
In 2008, the generous gift of 30 Million Dollars from Adrienne Arsht made this Center financially stable and in recognition for this generosity, the former Carnival Center of Performing Arts was renamed to ” “The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County”, or short the Arsht Center.
